Eagle Nest Alpine Shelter, village of Gara Lakatnik

At 300 m above the Iskar River, a small wooden cottage is perched on a terraced rock promenade. It is colored in red and seen from far away, and it represents an Alpine shelter that can only be reached by rope. Beautiful and inaccessible, untouchable for human problems, it proudly bears its name – „Eagle Nest“.

It was built in 1938 by climbers from the Bulgarian Alpine Club, after an unspeakable work of several months.  It is the emblem of Lakatnishki rocks and every visitor who has come to see the rocks, looks for it, points their finger at it and enjoys this wonderful view like a little child.
