Lukovo

Lukovo is a village in western Bulgaria. It is located in the Municipality of Svoge, Sofia district. Each year a traditional village fair is held on May 6th.

Geography
The village of Lukovo is a Balkan village located in the Iskar Gorge, 29 km from the center of Sofia. By train, from Sofia Central Station, it takes 30 minutes to get there. The altitude of the town hall is 519 meters measured with GPS. The village is divided into four neighborhoods.

Cultural and natural landmarks
The first church in the village of Lukovo, Svoge municipality, Sveta Petka was opened on 14.10.2012. This is the first church to be built for years in the Sofia District, especially in the Iskar Gorge. Because of its exceptional architecture, they call it „The Pearl of the Gorge“. The construction of the church began in 2006 when Nadezhda Taskova established the Pravoslavie Foundation; a Church Board of Trustees was established and began to raise aid and, together with the Directorate of Religious Affairs, began to raise funds for the construction. 90% of the funds for the building of the church are gathered from aid, the biggest donation is from the entrepreneur who did not take any money for the construction of the church and paid his own money to the workers.
