The Cross Country Style cycling competition – Djurenec Quest will be held on 25.06.2016 from the village of Batuliya, Svoge municipality. The start will be given at 10:00 (participants are advised to be there at 8:30) from Major Frank Thompson’s monument near the center of the village. The route is 29.5 km long, including a variety of terrain, breathtaking views, and the goal is the conquest of Djurenec Peak (1397m).
The trail starts from Major Thompson’s monument, passes through the center of Batuliya and goes slightly steep to the village of Bukovets. Then the road becomes even, but quite muddy. At the 7,7th kilometer of the race, the road turns to the left and crosses the Ogradishka River. From there begins a steep rocky climb to the first checkpoint – Chakaloto. These are 3 km, during which a large number of participants will have to push their bikes. After Chakaloto, there are a few hundred meters of a flat section before the turn to the right and the “attack” on Djurenec peak. To the top there are steep and muddy stretches, passing through pine, beech forests and meadows.
Once you have climbed Djurenec peak, you will see magnificent views of Chukava peak and Murgash peak. There will also be the second checkpoint. After Djurenec peak, there are numerous descents and climbs of hills or small peaks. The terrain ranges from a nice forest road to a terrain with a lot of puddles, mud, and heavily stony stretches. You will also go through a third checkpoint before the Krastets neighborhood. On your way you will enjoy views of Izdrimets peak, Koznitsa peak, Visoka Chukla peak and others.
After reaching Krastets neighborhood, it follows an 8-kilometer-long descent to the center of Batuliya, where you will head to the final of the competition, again at Major Thompson’s monument.
